I am a cosmopolite with Danish and Mexican roots, who sees the world from different perspectives. I like to travel and get to know new places and cultures to remind myself that there are countless ways of living. I find it deeply inspiring to think about what is universal about mankind and what differs one culture from others. The world can seem small if you don’t break the routine from time to time and if you rarely see and experience new things.
My art is about seeing the world from new perspectives. With my work I try to give a senseof what is unfamiliar and at the same time point out what we have in common with that otherness. I also try to create images of something that you may identify yourself with, but viewed from a different angle.
The highlights of world history and development have been defined for better or for worse by the exchange - and sometimes clashes - between cultures and worldviews. "The world has become small" due to globalization and the Internet, but we must not fool ourselves by believing that we can experience the world through the internet or television, I think that we need to get out there and get mud up to our knees in the Amazon to experience the jungle, climb a 6,000 meter high mountain, and feel the altitude to enjoy the view, sail in canoe on the beautiful Lagan river in southern Sweden, tolerating the 50 or so mosquito bites, or enjoy some good Sate Ayam at a street kitchen in Kuala Lumpur, having to cope with the stomach ache later on. In order to feel that you are alive, you must experience a bit of everything, sometimes extremes - that's my attitude towards life and that is exactly the same attitude I have towards art, I transfer what I experience into my paintings, I follow my own instincts in the process and I do what I want. I keep an eye on what happens in mainstream art, but I don’t feel the need of to be a part of it. And even though I stem from a family of artists – of which I am proud - I don’t like to be interpreted by that. I have a different view on art, and a completely different visual language from other artists in my family.
My visual language consists of a fusion of the intuitive of abstract art, the impulsive from expressionistic art, and the narrative of figurative art. Working with different techniques and materials is essential for me, as it gives me great opportunities to express myself and simultaneously take the best from the effects and possibilities of each technique. For me, the creative process is the most fascinating part of working with art. Therefore I let my works be strongly influenced by the technique and the materials I use, and as a result the original idea passes through several metamorphoses.
Small dots dominate the surfaces of my paintings, I really like the optical effect that dots create and the vibration effect this causes between foreground and background. Sometimes I paint thick dots on canvas, for them to have a three-dimensional effect. I began using dots inspired by Pop Art, "primitive" art, and art crafts from Mexico.
I like telling stories with my paintings, these are often filled with existential reflections and social criticism. At other times, I like to highlight everyday situations to emphasize that the small details of everyday life can be crucial.
Man´s behaviour and interaction in time and space is the central theme in my art.
